On the positive side, what a great professional opportunity for Dan, I really wish him lots of luck. Also, what a great adventure for Megan, Dan, Claire and Colin. Australia is a great place, they will enjoy it.

On the not so positive side GrandPa will miss Claire and Colin at such great ages. Dad will miss his daughter Megan and our side intellectual convesations and Dan with our Football Saturdays. Will have to save vacation days for the fall.

    Good Luck and enjoy

Hello, my husband, Ryan, and I have recently moved to Melbourne from Iowa for his job. We are in the process if planning a blog ourserlves and we ran across yours. Looks fun! I can’t wait to read it and get regular updates and tips/tricks about the city.

I stumbled upon this blog as I am studying abroad in Beijing, China and ended up dating an Australian from Melbourne. Looking to possibly intern and eventually move to Melbourne after college in 1.5 years.

Laura, where in Iowa are you from? I’m from Des Moines!

    • Megan says:

We love living in Melbourne. Spending a large amount of time here would be best. Its a very international city. Laura writes a blog as well, its listed under Melbourne Bloggers, When In Oz. Give her a shout. Thanks for reading!

Hey Joe! I didn’t see this until now – we’re from Des Moines too. Such a small world! Yes, as Megan says, check out our blog at wheninoz.com or drop us an email at wheninoz@gmail.com

  4. Hello,
We are returning to Melbourne after living in New Jersey for over 15 years (I am Australian but my wife is American). We also have a blog, principally about our adventures getting home, in addition to our new adventures in Australia. We will enjoy reading about what you find interesting about my home town, I’m sure it will help us re-adjust after so many years on America’s east coast. Looking forward to reading more.
    Marcus

Thanks for stopping by! I am envious of your around the world adventure back home. I am curious as to what you thought of nj and look forward to reading your blog as well! Thanks for finding me. Your home town has been a great host to our family.

Hi Megan, I’m also a mom of two and an American who is relocating the city of Melbourne in a couple of months. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts and they’ve provided some insight into what life is like for you. I was wondering if you’d be up for an email exchange to answer a few questions. Thanks for your time!

Hi Megan, great blog. Sorry to read you have left already!
What suburbs would you recommend for a family with two young daughters (6 and 1). Not too quiet, some cafes and groceries nearby, bit of hustle and bustle, good playgrounds, schools, easy to meet friends for playdates and if possible not too far from CBD or with good public transport links? Thanks.
Suzanne, did you move already? How old are your children?

      • Megan says:

Yes, we have left gorgeous Australia. My kids are 4 and 2. We lived in Elwood and couldn’t recommend it enough. It has all the above. You may find that many Melbourne suburbs offer the same – its an all around great place to live. You can try CityHobo on the sidebar links too! Much luck in Australia. I’m happy to email more details.

Hi Megan, Just coming across your blog (unfortunately a few years too late it seems), in my own search about becoming an expat to Melbourne. My husband and I, with our two kids (9-boy & 7-girl), are moving over to Aussie from DC for two years in December. I would love to know more about your experience from int’l movers to what groceries you preferred. Any suggestions, tips and info that you or anyone can offer would be so welcome. We are looking at leasing in Elwood, St. Kilda, or the Bayside area. My husband will be working in the CBD, but traveling to Sydney and Asia often. I would love suggestions on how to find doctors, sports clubs (my son plays lacrosse and American football) and groups for myself. Hope your transition back to the States have gone smoothly! We have lots of friends and family from NJ and Long Island! Thanks and Cheers! Taryn
